After living 12 years with a horribly boring and never-used backyard consisting of a splintered deck and a half acre of grass, we called Melanie and we couldn’t be happier. Now we have a beautiful oasis where we spend every possible moment. Melanie listened to our ideas and took them to a level we couldn’t even imagine. Watching it all come together was incredible. Our boring blank canvas backyard is now beautiful and functional. The drawings looked great on their own, but the 3D rendering really brought it to life and was a perfect way of seeing just how great our space could be. Melanie designed a perfect deck, gardens that even a non-gardener (like me!) can’t kill, a gorgeous fire pit surrounded by huge flagstones, and a pavilion for shade where we enjoy meals, drinks, and watch the sunsets. We just finished the design process with Melanie for our new in-ground pool and we couldn’t be happier. She had amazing ideas and was so collaborative and easy to work with. She knows so much about native plants and made some great recommendations for our new gardens. She even helped us make sense of the different types of stone and materials we could use for our pool deck and retaining wall. We are really pleased with the design Melanie completed for our large front and back yard. I love gardening but having a plant layout that so expertly incorporated what we wanted while taking care of our concerns was wonderful. Melanie also included a fabulous patio plan – what an improvement this created in looks and functionality! She was very patient with all my questions and so thorough with the layout; finding out about Melanie and her landscape business was the best thing we could have done.
We have received so many compliments on our backyard! Melanie came up with a layout that we were thrilled with. She portioned out all of our backyard features so that we could make the most use of our space, and she added a lot of greenery so that it had a resort feeling. Every single detail down to each plant and even the furniture placement was spot on. She is worth every penny. There is no way we could have ended up with an end result that was this good on our own!

Project Scope: Complete backyard overhaul with inground pool and retaining walls for elevation change.
For the past year, my husband and I scratched our heads about how to make our back yard work for us. We had “other designers” come in to look, none of which seemed to be in sync with who we are and what we liked. Along comes Melanie— Always on time and with a smile. Respectful of our home and ideas! This lady NAILED the design on the first draft! She came up with ideas when everyone else said it wasn’t possible. We have a very odd shaped, small yard with significant elevation change. Who knew that we can transform it the way we did.
Work to the yard has commenced this week. I will follow up on this post with pictures of Melanie’s design in 6-8 weeks
I needed landscape work in all the yards front, side and back. I came across an ad for Melanie Rekola and checked them on on her website… had a lot of great reviews so I gave her a call. Melanie came over and we discussed some of the landscaping options available. Although, I had some ideas of what I wanted done, I really valued Melanie’s expert opinion as to what would enhance the look of my home.Melanie had a vision for the layout, the type and colour of stones and the accents that would make the project work. She drew up a design and gave a quote for the project. I was given time to think about it, and satisfied with the estimate, I called Melanie back and we made a contract. When Melanie and her crew showed up and started work you got the immediate impression that they knew what they were doing. It was like clock-work. You could tell that they took pride in their work; I would see Melanie constantly measuring to see if things were square and level and done right. It is that attention to detail that you want from your contractor. I should note that the team helped with the tree-planting as well. Melanie was nice enough to meet me at the nursery where we decided on a selection of trees for my yard and she arranged for one of the crew to pick them up in the truck. They were brought over and then planted…. all at a nominal cost. In the end, the job looked fantastic and I can say that I was completely satisfied. Even my friends and neighbors were totally impressed and some asked for estimates as well. I am looking forward to Melanie planning the pool, pool house and landscaping in our new home.

We used Melanie to design our backyard when we decided to put a pool in our small suburban backyard. I’m a garden lover, and I was worried that I would lose too much of my garden by putting in the pool. In our 35 ft wide yard, Melanie was able to work her magic and plan for a beautiful garden, a good sized pool, a seating area and a conversation area! Melanie was thoughtful in her design and made sure there was always something in bloom, lots of textures, and always something for the birds and the bees.
